Periods are not shameful. Yet for too many girls, a period still means missed school, missed confidence, missed dignity, simply because no one taught them, no one told them, no one gave them what they needed.
That is the silence Queensley Development Initiative was created to break.
Founded by Queensley Agu, the initiative grew from a simple belief: no girl should choose between her education and her health, and no woman should carry shame for something her body does naturally every month. What began as a commitment to speak openly about menstrual health now walks into classrooms and sits with young ladies, offering more than pads, offers young girls and women the boldness to be open and feel normal in place of shame.
Today, that commitment has reached roughly ~2,000 girls and women. Multiple school visits, heart-to-heart conversations and a couple of Menstrual Hygiene Days later, we are raising community leaders for the real infrastructure, and fighting for policies that schools and public spaces should have had all along.
This work is far from finished. But every girl who walks a little taller after we've spoken to her tells us we're moving in the right direction.
We are Queensley Development Initiative. We believe dignity should never depend on access to a pad, and we're working every day to make sure it doesn't have to.
Once a year, we take the conversation public. Communities gather and we are able to break the silence a little more. During this program, we ensure that pads and hygiene essentials go directly into the hands of the girls and women who need them and not through an intermediary.
All year round, we walk into classrooms. We talk to girls about their bodies before society tells them to feel shame. We make sure to leave every visit with pads and hygiene materials in their hands, not just words in their ears.
Not every struggle is loud. We sit with girls and women who are quietly carrying period-related pain, confusion, or fear, and give them a safe place to be heard without judgment.
Pads help today. Policy helps for good. We work with community leaders to push for the toilets, supplies, and infrastructure that schools and public spaces have gone without for far too long.
